📘Google Quantum AI just demonstrated a practical, verifiable break of Bitcoin and Ethereum’s ECC cryptography — using 500,000 superconducting qubits in roughly 9 minutes. Confirmed via zero-knowledge proof, not theory.

📗 Simultaneously, Oratomic (in collaboration with Caltech and UC Berkeley) achieved the same result with only 10,000 neutral-atom qubits — taking days instead of minutes, but requiring 50× fewer qubits.

📉 The real danger isn’t any single breakthrough — it’s the convergence. Four independent studies (Gidney 2025, Pinnacle 2026, Google 2026, Oratomic 2026) across superconducting and neutral-atom platforms now converge on the same narrow window: 10,000 to 1,000,000 qubits.

🔐 ECC (the curve protecting virtually every crypto wallet) collapses before RSA on every architecture tested. Google’s ECC-256 attack needs roughly half the qubits Gidney estimated for RSA-2048. Oratomic’s neutral-atom system cracks ECC with just 10K qubits versus 102K for RSA.

A 10,000-qubit neutral-atom machine won’t snoop your next on-chain transaction. But it can retroactively drain millions of dormant wallets whose public keys are already exposed on the blockchain — and those wallets aren’t moving.

🛡️ The good news: NIST’s post-quantum standards (ML-KEM and ML-DSA) are finalized and ready for deployment. The migration path exists.
